This is a bull thistle wildfower, Cirsium vulgare, bud. It is also called spear thistle. It is considered a noxious weed here in Alabama, but the birds, butterflies, and a large variety of insects love it.

My name is Kathy Clark and I live in Hartselle, Alabama with my husband Tom, and my daughters, Michelle & Jessica, and granddaughter Tasha & great-granddaughter Ava living fairly close by. However I spent most of my life in Alaska where I learned to appreciate the world around me. I love God's creation and find photography a great way to capture some of that beauty.
